The HJ21x7.5 KLL-SC Canon Cinestyle lens will be attractive to many cinematographers who seek this degree of extended control over lens focal length. Weighing in at 5.9 lbs, the lens works well in diverse applications – including handheld, compact tripod, lightweight jib-arm, and Steadicam shooting. It is particularly suited for long shooting distances on location.
By using high index low dispersion materials the chromatic aberrations are well controlled over the 21x zoom range. Contrast was extended by superb control of black reproduction – with optical and mechanical design innovations that substantially reduced flare, veiling glare, and any internal reflections. Similar attention to minimization of ghost images and other highlight-related chromatic distortions caused by strong light sources on-axis and off-axis further extend the operational contrast range of the lens.
The lens has exceptional behavior in terms of the ever-challenging specification on geometric distortion at the very wide-angle focal lengths.
Focus breathing is particularly well controlled in this lens – to where the undesirable alteration of angle of view with actuation of the focus control is now virtually eliminated. Zoom, focus and iris indications are engraved with dual large luminous scales while gear rings are compatible with studio focus rigs, manual fluid zoom drives and motorized control systems. All distance markings are measured in feet.
