Sony Burano

The Sony BURANO has a Full Frame 8.6K sensor can capture every nuance and color with in-body image stabilization and in-camera variable ND filters. BURANO is light, ergonomic, and extremely mobile. BURANO could fit in a backpack on a documentary or work as a companion camera to its larger sibling, VENICE.

Sony Burano:

The all new Sony Burano was designed to be a highly mobile and light weight camera, with a prestigious cinematic look.  The camera has the same PL over locking E-Mount system as VENICE, but it is not compatible with RIALTO. Burano has an 8.6K Full Frame Sensor and supports multiple sensor modes.

Despite its compact dimensions, BURANO offers internal recording of Sony’s X-OCN LT* as well as XAVC H and proven industry standard XAVC-I format. X-OCN, Or Original Camera Negative is the compressed 16-Bit RAW format that records everything that the 8.6K sensor can capture in a broad latitude 16-bit scene linear file full of rich tonal gradation. X-OCN LT’s high efficiency reduces storage requirements and accelerates file transfer times for 8K content for a post-production workflow that’s comparable to a 4K project.

The Sony BURANO is the world’s first cinema camera that supports in-body optical image stabilization (IBIS) for almost any attached lens, including for the first time PL.  Featuring a gyroscopic sensor and control algorithm, it compensates camera shake even for handheld shooting while walking. The stabilization is so effective that it removes the need for extra equipment for many applications. Stabilization is even greater with E-mount lenses, allowing more difficult shots to be captured without blurring.

Sony’s unique electronic Variable ND Filter has been redesigned to be both smaller and compatible with the built-in image stabilization mechanism. It can smoothly and continuously change density from 0.6 to 2.1.  Operators can maintain a constant depth of field by adjusting the electronic ND filter and the iris control together. Continuous or stepped changes can be selected with the ND STEP/VARIABLE switch and, the [Auto ND] function automatically adjusts the filter density to give correct exposure. This effectively allows the use of the ND filter as an alternative Auto IRIS.
