The Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Program (TMIIIP) provides qualifying film, television, commercial, animation, visual effects, video game, extended reality (XR), and other moving image productions the opportunity to receive a cash grant. These grants are based on a percentage of a project’s eligible Texas expenditures, including eligible wages paid to Texas residents. Grants vary by budget levels and types of productions, and are issued upon completion of a review of the project’s Texas expenditures. This incentive program is in addition to Texas’ Sales Tax Exemptions.
Texas has long been known as a film-friendly state offering a slew of tax incentives, grants and other attractive benefits to productions. The recent conclusion of the state’s legislative session delivered filmmakers additional commitments for financial support in the coming year. Thanks to two bills, the statewide filming grant was raised to an all-time high of $200 million, a significant jump from the $45 million earmarked in the previous session.
